Gaze and perception are common themes in my art. Eyes have been said to be the "windows to the soul" while icons of eyes are used to represent surveillance. In today's online culture of data mining and social media, I believe we all have concerns about privacy and an awareness of being watched. I have discovered an underlying anxiety when using social media and it made me begin to question my existence as well as reality. On a Saturday this past May, I embraced the madness by creating the music video "Spread It" in which I wear a necklace of eyes.
I've laser cut a variety of eye designs to use in an upcoming installation, tentatively titled "INsight," as well as jewelry. It's been a lot of fun creating different patterns with these cut-outs while I let the art installation idea percolate. As I play with these concepts, eye jewelry is available for purchase in my Shop.
Some of my social accounts are still linked to this site as I work through how to use or not use them. After a couple months without social media, I found peace and much of my idle time returned. I don't think I'll ever approach it the same again.
